[Mon 26/10/2009 12:31:26]

Press release from Nix Co.

Macgowan Films is proud to announce shooting has commenced on Australian feature film South Solitary at Cape Nelson in Victoria.

Written and directed by Shirley Barrett (Love My Way, Love Serenade), South Solitary is produced by Marian Macgowan (Two Hands, Death Defying Acts) and Miranda Culley (Catch A Fire) with Sarah Radclyffe (The Edge of Love, Les Misérables) as executive producer, and stars Miranda Otto (Lord of the Rings, Blessed, War of the Worlds) in a leading role alongside her father and one of Australia’s most prolific actors, Barry Otto (Australia, $9.99) and Martin Csokas (Romulus My Father).

The film will also feature an exciting line up of Australian talent including Essie Davis (Girl with a Pearl Earring) and Rohan Nichol, in his first Australian feature film role.

South Solitary follows Meredith (Miranda Otto), 35 and unmarried, who arrives at a remote lighthouse island in 1928 with her uncle, the new head keeper (Barry Otto) Bad weather and misadventure leave her marooned with only the sullen and withdrawn assistant keeper Fleet (Marton Csokas) for companionship. A tender, faltering courtship ensues...."

South Solitary will shoot over six weeks at Cape Nelson and Cape Otway in southern Victoria and was financed with the assistance of Screen Australia, Film Victoria, Screen NSW and Omnilab Media.
