[Fri 09/05/2008 01:05:44]

By Simon de Bruyn

Despite being shunned by exhibitors, low budget thriller Black Water has had a strong second week at the box office, while the Bryan Brown produced Cactus struggled to take $66,000 on 40 screens.

Distributed by Hoyts, Cactus took $1,672 per screen to reach $66,885 for the week. Its accumulated box office of $105,662.

Meanwhile Black Water, which was down one screen since opening on three screens in Darwin two weeks ago, took $11,445 this week. That’s $5,723 per screen with a $33,304 total for the A.I. Entertainment distributed film.

Now in its ninth week, The Black Balloon continued to hold after its screen count was dropped this week to 53 from 74 screens. It took $73,186 which brought the total box office to $2,068,733 for the Icon distributed film.

All three films are in cinemas now.
