The Jammed keeps running with NZ release

[Wed 11/06/2008 05:18:34]

By Simon de Bruyn

Breakout 2007 hit and IF Award winning film The Jammed has proven to have even longer legs, securing a New Zealand theatrical opening across six screens next week.

According to John L. Simpson, whose distribution company Titan View is handling The Jammed in Australia and NZ, the film is opening in strong arthouse cinemas in Auckland, Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington on June 19 with a view to going wider.

“It’s not a huge release at this stage, but given that we went from one cinema to screening on 40 in Australia, we think we can grow those numbers. We will be doing some television interviews as the issues the film addresses are relevant there too,” he says.

Simpson formed Titan View in order to distribute The Jammed after he saw the film at the inaugural Dungog Film Festival about this time last year. The film went on to make over $392,000 at the Australian box office.

The feature was directed by Dee MacLachlan who is currently developing a range of other features including Looking For Mr Jones which was recently accepted into the 2008 SP*RK program. In November last year The Jammed won the Showtime IF Award for best feature, as well as IF Awards for best script and best music.
