Gettin' Square writer surfaces with new feature

[Thu 26/06/2008 05:49:43]

By Simon de Bruyn

Chris Nyst, the criminal lawyer turned crime writer who won an IF Award for his Gettin’ Square script in 2003, has resurfaced with a new crime film called Crooked Business, which he directed as well as wrote.

The multi-layered crime caper marks the directorial debut for Nyst, who was dubbed Australia ’s answer to John Grisham after releasing a string of novels that draw upon his extensive experience as a defense lawyer in some of the country’s most notorious cases.

Crooked Business
producer Scott Corfield told Inside Film that he had formed his own distribution company, Pictureshow Distribution, with Nyst and associate producer Jason Murakami, to distribute the film to over 50 cinemas equipped for digital projection.

The planned release date for the film in theatres is October 9 2008.

Corfield said that in addition to the trailer and poster (pictured below), Pictureshow was planning some different strategies to market the film to a range of audiences. He said the trailer had already been screened before a Gold Coast Titans game, and that the film had been shown to Melbourne underworld figure Mick Gatto to get a different type of review of the film.
