Aussie shortlisted for Iris Prize

Australian director Jarrah Gurrie has been shortlisted for the Iris Prize, the world’s richest short film prize for Gay & Lesbian filmmakers, for his film Center of the Universe.

Gurrie, who has recently completed studies at NYU's prestigious Tisch School of the Arts, will traveol to Cardiff, Wales to be part of the festival where his short film will be in contention for the £25,000 Grand Prize.

Center of the Universe was shot in New York and features music by Melbourne based musicians Winterpark and Simon Anson.

Center of the Universe has previously screened at Outfest LA, The Melbourne Queer FF, Brooklyn Int. FF, Sao Paulo Int. Film Festival and will screen at the San Sebastian Short Film Festival in Spain, where Gurrie will be a jury member at the International Film Schools Meeting.

Gurrie's previous work includes Cabalerno which won the Logo TV USA Best in Short Film, and Bright Lights which won the Geelong Shootout in 2004 and was the Sydney Mardi Gras Film Festival Development Award Winner.

He also directed a segment of the collaborative feature Little Deaths, which premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival last Friday.
