Salute coverage causes website meltdown

[Thu 23/10/2008 04:28:37]

By Simon de Bruyn

The acclaimed feature-length documentary about Australian athlete Peter Norman and his role in the black power salute at the 1968 Olympics is garnering worldwide coverage, ahead of its market premiere at the American Film Market in November.

Written and directed by Matt Norman, Salute has won audience awards at the Sydney and Rhode Island Film Festivals.

Odin’s Eye Entertainment principal Michael Favelle, who has secured international rights from Instinct Entertainment, explained that the media and audiences honed in on the film again last week thanks to the 40th anniversary of the event on October 16.

“The coverage resulted in the official website going into meltdown after it was accessed by over 800,000 people in the space of just a few hours,” he said.

He said he was looking forward to taking the film to AFM, following significant interest.

Salute is a wonderful achievement by Matt and I'm very confident it will be well received internationally by distributors and audiences alike.”

Norman is currently developing a feature film version of the events, simply titled 1968.
