AFM 2008: Lightning strikes Black Water team
[Wed 19/11/2008 12:00:17]
By Simon de Bruyn
The next feature from Black Water co-writer/director Andrew Traucki has found success at the American Film Market, picking up Lightning Entertainment as its worldwide sales agent and scoring presales to five territories.
David Nerlich, the second co-writer/director of Black Water, is pursuing other projects.
Lightning will also executive produce the film. Black Water joins other recent local films Subdivision and Hey Hey It’s Esther Blueberger on the Lightning sales slate.
Traucki's new film, titled The Reef, will see Traucki and Black Water producer Michael Robertson return to the creature feature genre, this time telling the story of tourists stalked by an 18-foot great white shark up on the Great Barrier Reef.
It is understood Robertson secured 25 per cent of the film’s budget at AFM, and presales have been signed with distributors in the UK, Russia, Canada, Eastern Europe and Japan.
The Reef is currently in pre-production, with shooting set to begin in March 2009.
