Editor extraordinaire Walter Murch’s one and only foray into directing is an intensely interesting sequel to the beloved Wizard Of Oz. Based on L. Frank Baum’s series of novels, this film dials up the disturbing themes and imagery, as Fairuza Balk’s Dorothy slips back to a crumbling and desolate Oz. An unsentimental throwback to the days when kid’s stories were scary, with some impressive claymation effects.
