Disney shifts Subdivision release to August

[Fri 30/01/2009 06:05:25]

By Simon de Bruyn

Walt Disney Studios has pushed back the release of Australian comedy Subdivision from 4 June to 13 August, 2009.

Disney managing director Alan Finney said the comedy, the new feature from Japanese Story director Sue Brooks, was moved to a less crowded release period to give the film room to appeal to its broad target audience.

“As with all our films, this decision was made after looking at the competitive marketplace and choosing a release period which we hope will give Subdivision the best opportunity to find a very broad audience. We had considered a slightly earlier date but looking at the July holiday period, it is full of very strong titles,” he said.

“Also, I’ve always liked August-September, especially [since] I was privileged to look after Muriel’s Wedding and Priscilla in this period back in 1994.”

Starring Bruce Spence, Gary Sweet, Brooke Satchwell and Steve Bisley, Subdivision tells the story of the change that happens in a small coastal town when southern developers come in and take over. Written by Ashley Bradnam, the film is produced by Trish Lake at Freshwater Productions.

Subdivison will be Disney’s second Australian release for the year, after Two Fists One Heart, which it has also recently pushed back by one week to 19 March.
