Samson up again in fourth weekend

Sarah Watt’s follow-up to Look Both Ways took $177,000 at the local box office over the weekend, while Samson and Delilah continued to perform admirably in its fourth week in cinemas.

Playing across 25 screens, My Year Without Sex took a screen average of $7,098. Including $41,000 in previews last weekend, the film has now taken $220,000.

The film, which was made for $3.8 million, held extensive word of mouth screenings with an estimated 20,000 people in the months prior its release last Thursday.

This opening weekend is lower than the $216,000 taken by Look Both Ways in August 2005; the film opened on 17 screens and thanks to a strong word of mouth response, went onto gross almost $3 million at the box office.

Samson and Delilah increased its take yet again. By adding three screens from 16 to 19 the film rose 17 per cent over last weekend’s take, grossing a further $273,000 for a new total of $1.22 million.

Mary and Max is petering out in its eighth weekend and seems set to finish with $1.33 million.
