Fabinyi departs Mushroom Pictures

[Fri 16/10/2009 09:58:06]

By Brendan Swift

Long term Mushroom Pictures chief executive Martin Fabinyi has left the group to work on his own projects.

“I had just been there for a long time and it was time to do my own thing,” Fabinyi, whose record company will continue to be licensed through the Mushroom Group, said.

During his tenure, Fabinyi produced the films Gettin' Square and Cut and executive produced Chopper and Horseplay.

Mushroom Group boss Michael Gudinski also produced or executive produced several of the same projects including 2005 horror-thriller Wolf Creek.

Mushroom recently released Lebanese-Australian film Cedar Boys, which was critically well received but underperformed at the box office, grossing $204,160 across 33 screens.

Mushroom Pictures is next set to release Australian indigenous feature Mad Bastards in 2010.
