SAFC and Channel Seven announce internship initiative

[Wed 18/11/2009 12:58:36]

Press release from SA Film

The South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) and Channel Seven are excited to announce an exclusive partnership between the two organisations – a joint interstate internship initiative.

The aim of the initiative is to skill South Australian writers, producers, directors and continuity in television drama production, giving them hands on experience on some of Australia’s best known and popular programs.

Interested applicants from South Australia can apply for one of three internships on one of the successful drama series’ made by Channel Seven: Home and Away, Packed to the Rafters and City Homicide. The internships will run for three weeks with City Homicide based at Channel Seven’s Melbourne studios and Packed to the Rafters and Home and Away at Channel Seven’s Sydney studios.

"This industry is hard to crack. We are thrilled that Seven is able to give someone a chance like this," says John Holmes, Seven's Head of Drama:

Richard Harris, SAFC CEO says ‘This significant initiative will give a new generation of South Australian writers a unique opportunity to develop their television craft. It will immerse them in a studio environment on some of Australia’s most successful shows, expose them to the commercial production world, and provide them with invaluable skills and experience that they will be able to reinvest into the local industry.’

The partnership will be assessed under the criteria of the SAFC’s new Interstate Internship Scheme, aiming to provide the opportunity for South Australian industry professionals to access national industry leaders, develop craft and technical skills and be attached to an interstate production company in order to build networks.

Applications for the initiative are open from the end of November with applications closing on 18 January 2010. At the end of February 2010, the SAFC and Channel 7 will jointly decide upon the three successful applicants.

More information on the scheme, guidelines and application forms are available at www.safilm.com.au
