Separation City opens with $15K

New Zealand romantic comedy Separation City has taken more than $15,000 in its opening weekend.
The feature, starring Joel Edgerton and TV star Rhona Mitra, was shown on 15 screens resulting in a subdued screen average of just $1,019.
Meanwhile, another limited release, Girl Clock!, continued a solid run across three Brisbane cinemas.
The low-budget comedy, which was shown at the recent Australian Film Festival, took a further $7,418 in its second week, boosting its overall tally to $20,092.
Among major releases, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, starring Johnny Depp and Australia’s Mia Wasikowska, took more than $10.3 million in its opening weekend.
The result, accrued across 448 screens, bolstered its screen average to an impressive $23,163.
Only two major Australian films are currently being shown in cinemas and both are nearing the end of their run.
Indigenous musical Bran Nue Dae added a further $77,159 across its 93 screens. It has now taken $7.23 million at the box office in its eighth week.
And vampire film Daybreakers added $20,524 across just 21 screens in its fifth week at cinemas, pushing its total to just over $2.42 million.
