Omnilab settles In Her Skin case

[Thu 11/03/2010 11:14:20]

By Brendan Swift

Production conglomerate Omnilab Media and Screen Queensland have reached an out-of-court settlement regarding the feature film In Her Skin.

The deal ends several months of litigation between the parties after Omnilab (and Mapp Group Holdings) rejected a call to meet Reliant international Pictures' distribution guarantee. Omnilab had previously underwritten the guarantee.

"All parties are pleased with the outcome and all details of the settlement are confidential," Screen Queensland said in a statement.

A spokesman for Omnilab declined to add further comment.

The case was originally spurred by a dispute between the film's production house, Liberty Films International, and international distributor Reliant, which is understood to have made substantial cuts to In Her Skin without the involvement of the filmmakers.

It caused a $2.3 million Screen Queensland loan backing the production unable to be repaid by its due date and prompted the subsequent court action.

In Her Skin, starring Guy Pearce and Miranda Otto, tells the true-life story of 15-year-old student, Rachel Barber, who went missing in Melbourne in 1999 before being found murdered by former friend Caroline Reid.
