Levy reappointed AFTRS chief

[Wed 02/06/2010 01:40:40]

By Sam Dallas

Award-winning film and television producer Sandra Levy will stay on as CEO of Sydney school AFTRS for at least another four years, it was announced today.

“Since her appointment in 2007, she has raised the school’s profile with the industry and the general public,’’ said Arts Minister Peter Garrett of the current Sydney Theatre Company deputy chair.

“Her strong leadership credentials have led to improved access to the many programs, activities and facilities run by the school."

At Senate Estimate committee hearings last week, Levy said the national screen arts and broadcast school was meeting targets and student numbers had increased from 264 to 390 in the past 12 months.

Prior to being ABC’s director of television, the 2010 Macquarie University Honorary Doctorate of Letters recipient produced such shows as Police Rescue and feature The Well for independent production house Southern Star.

Levy was also head of drama at ABC between 1987 and 1989 and has served as a board member for the Film Finance Corporation, the Australian Film Commission and the NSW Cultural Management Committee.
