James Hackett joins Creative Sydney

[Thu 03/06/2010 03:41:17]

Press release from Tsuki

James Hackett, founder and director of Sydney based production house Hackett Films will join Sean Ashby (AussieBum), Rob Belgiovane (BMW), Marty Wirth and Axel Moline (Modular Records) on Tuesday 8 June, for Creative Sydney’s thought-provoking panel discussion about Sydney as the world’s studio. Held as part of Vivid Sydney, and moderated Creative Sydney director Jess Scully, ‘Local Talent / Global Market’ will explore what makes Sydney a good base, or tough place for global business.

Renowned for his experience crafting character-driven narratives and developing bespoke animation techniques, James Hackett will speak about his experience working as an Australian animation director on the international stage, in particular the work done for acclaimed kids TV series dirtgirlworld.

Hackett and Jean Camden of Hackett Films created the visual concept and innovative style for the music-centric show, with series creator/producer Cate McQuillen for mememe productions in Australia. The series uses a hybrid style that is an evolution of the production houses’ trademark technique which blends live action, traditional 2D and 3D animation and photomontage.

Hackett Film’s other award-winning projects include title sequences for Andrew Denton’s Zapruder’s Other Films (Enough Rope, The Gruen Transfer), and ARIA Award winning animated music videos for The Dissociatives. Other distinctive work includes TVCs for celebrity endorsed brands including NIB (Paul Harragon), Ripcurl (Mick Fanning), branding solutions for Triple JTV and Studio 3 for ABC3, educational in-flight films for V-Australia, and character-driven commercials for BT Super and The Royal Easter Show.
