[Fri 16/07/2010 11:55:06]

By staff reporters

Film Victoria has invested more than $900,000 across 12 digital media projects, boosting the state agency’s total digital media commitments to more than $1.3 million for the last financial year.

Film Victoria chief executive Sandra Sdraulig said the agency received a 45 per cent increase in digital media funding applications in 2009-10.

"In 2009, the number of Australians playing games overtook those attending the cinema, which illustrates just how fast this sector is growing," she said in a statement.

Film Victoria supported a total of 32 digital media projects in 2009-10 with a total commitment of more than $1.3 million.

Sdraulig also said three of the top ten iPhone games of 2009 were developed in Melbourne: The Sims 3, Flight Control and Need For Speed.
