Box office: South Solitary posts $132K

The $7 million Australian romantic-comedy South Solitary has posted just over $132,000 in its opening weekend at cinemas.

The film, written and directed by Shirley Barrett and starring Miranda Otto, was released across 36 screens by Icon, posting a screen average of just $3673.

Christopher Nolan's pyschological thriller Inception held its number one position, taking $5.99 million in its second weekend across 413 screens. Its screen average of $14,440 also topped the charts with the film's total box office now standing at $16.33 million.

Australian director Robert Luketic's big budget Hollywood comedy, Killers, starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl, opened in second place with $2.05 million across 253 screens. Its screen average was a healthy $8105.

Among other Australian fare, The Waiting City added another $77,130 across 31 screens in its third week.It has now taken just over $470,400.

Crime drama Animal Kingdom has almost finished its theatrical run after nine weeks, adding another $95,933 across 74 screens. The DVD and Blu-ray DVD will be released on October 13 by Madman.

Meanwhile, New Zealand dramatic comedy Second Hand Wedding opened with $13,680 across 19 screens in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania over the weekend. The film opens in Queensland on August 12.
