Toy Story 3 hits top ten

[Thu 12/08/2010 03:51:12]

By Brendan Swift

Toy Story 3 has become the tenth biggest film of all time at the Australian box office.

The animated film added just over $800,000 in its seventh week at cinemas. It is also Disney's highest grossing film of all time, surpassing Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, which took $38.05 million in 2006.

A new release in each of the past three years has now scored a place in the all-time top ten with Avatar (2009) and The Dark Knight (2008) firmly entrenched in the list, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.

Apart from Crocodile Dundee, two Australian films also retain a place in the top twenty films of all time: Baz Luhrmann's Australia ($37.55 million in 2008) and Babe ($36.78 million in 1995).
