Kids Wanted for New Television Gameshow - Go Lingo!

[Wed 15/12/2010 12:17:03]

Press Release from carbon Media

Calling all kids who want to get on TV and have a go at spelling, grammar and language games in a fun new show called GO LINGO!

Produced by Carbon Media, GO LINGO! will air on ABC3 and National Indigenous Television (NITV) next year and will start shooting in Brisbane in February.

Carbon is looking for kids aged 11-12 years and strongly encourages participation by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

GO LINGO! is a high energy game show that will see contestants jumping into a pit of letters in Chuck A Block, shooting digital basketball hoops in Shoot Out and throwing digital paint balls in Splat. Of course, all the games focus on spelling and grammar.

Uniquely, GO LINGO! also features a segment titled My Country, which profiles Indigenous languages from around Australia. Audiences will learn the unique languages of towns, cities and remote areas that they live in and a handful of words from that language.

Carbon Media executive producer Wayne Denning said GO LINGO! was educational, packed full of fun and exciting challenges but most importantly showcased Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and languages.

“This show is open to all kids and its a great opportunity for Indigenous kids to get on TV, celebrate our culture and languages while also showing Australia how good they are at spelling and grammar,” said Mr Denning.

“There are about 250 Indigenous languages across Australia, some are extinct but many are alive and well and being spoken in communities across the country. We are hoping that all Aussie kids learn a bit about Indigenous history in their area and pick up and use a few words in the language of the traditional owners.”

In GO LINGO!, three kids will compete in each episode. Fifty episodes will be recorded in Brisbane in February. Contestants will have the opportunity to go onto the GO LINGO! website and practice some of the games that they will play on the show. To register, parents, teachers and guardians need to logon to the registration website at: www.golingo.tv
