Australian indigenous film Mad Bastards will be distributed in the US by Sundance Selects after its international premiere as part of the Sundance Film Festival's World Cinema Dramatic Competition.
The distribution deal, brokered by Entertainment One (eOne), will also involve a simultaneous video-on-demand offer after the January 24 screening via the “Direct from the Sundance Film Festival” initiative.
Mad Bastards is one of two feature-length Australian films in competition at this year's festival. The film tells the tale of TJ, a hard-edged Aboriginal man and his estranged 13-year-old son Bullet. It was directed by Brendan Fletcher, who also shared producing duties alongside David Jowsey, Alan Pigram and Stephen Pigram.
The film's world premiere will be on January 18 as part of the Sydney Festival, which will also include performances by the Pigram Brothers and Alex Lloyd, who contributed to the film.
eOne holds the worldwide rights to the film excluding Australia where Mad Bastards is being distributed by Transmission Films.
