RSP use Digital Vision's Nucoda Film Master

[Tue 18/01/2011 12:19:26]

By Sam Dallas

Visual effects company Rising Sun Pictures has worked with wizards, terminators and pigs.

Now add a dog and a dragon to the mix.

The Adelaide-based company has been busy working on two features that will be released later this year – Red Dog and The Dragon Pearl.

It was announced today the company used Digital Vision’s Nucoda Film Master to grade the features as well as Nucoda Compose for VFX dailies to review the high resolution shots in a colour-accurate environment.

“When we installed our Nucoda Film Master DI grading suite – including Nucoda Compose – we invested a significant amount of R&D to set up the technical aspects of the pipeline including identifying all new formats of delivery and acquisition as well digital cinema deliverables,” RSP chief executive Michael Taylor said in a statement.

“This ensures the best image quality from start to finish by understanding the nature of the images acquired.”

Digital Intermediate (DI) colourist Alex Meddick graded the majority of both films – Red Dog and Australian-Chinese co-production The Dragon Pearl – using Nucoda Film Master’s standard toolset.

Taylor, who mentions his company never had a real-time grading solution in a full 4k-capable cinema, says the benefits include a higher dynamic range in image and the ability to avoid the need to reprocess images by using their native internal linear to light colour space.

“This ensures the best image quality from start to finish by understanding the nature of the images acquired,” he says.
