A View From The Bridge to shoot in Victoria

By Sam Dallas

A film adaptation of American playwright Arthur Miller’s award-winning play A View From The Bridge is set to go into production Down Under in June.

The feature film, which will star Anthony LaPaglia (Without A Trace), Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) and Mia Wasikowska (Alice In Wonderland), will be filmed in Victoria after being attracted through Film Victoria’s Production Investment Attraction Fund.

Post-production services will also stay in Melbourne.

It’s good news for the Victorian cast and crew of at least 70, at a time when offshore productions are bypassing the country due to the high value of the dollar.

“We’re helping to put Victoria on the world stage and promote our state as a great place to make films – it also takes advantage of our award-winning post-production, digital and visual effects services,” Innovation, Services and Small Business Minister Louise Asher said in a statement.

Co-producer LaPaglia will reprise his Tony Award winning role in the film that he secured rights to after starring in the 1998 Broadway production of the same name.

“Combined with Victoria's incredible diversity of locations and the creative depth of specialised local crew, it made Melbourne a perfect home for this project,” said the Lantana star, who will be reunited with Balibo director Robert Connolly.

The drama about love and betray set in 1950s Brooklyn tells the story of longshoreman Eddie Carbone and his family and is written by Andrew Bovell (Lantana).

Academy Award nominee Vera Farmiga (Up In The Air) and newcomer Sebastian Stan (Black Swan) will also star in the film adaptation.

The film will also be shot in New York.
