IF Awards' best short film Celestial Avenue screening at Cinema Nova

[Tue 24/05/2011 12:01:58]

Press release from Cinema Nova

Award-winning short film CELESTIAL AVENUE is set to enjoy its first theatrical season at Cinema Nova when it screens prior to all sessions of the new Australian feature film BLAME.

Written and directed by local brothers Colin & Cameron Cairnes and starring Jason Gann and Angus Sampson, CELESTIAL AVENUE is an offbeat cross-cultural musical comedy about the lengths some people go to in order to woo the one they love.

Of the film’s release, Colin says: “We’re old enough to remember a time when going to the movies would often involve seeing a short film play before the main feature. But these days, outside of a couple of film festivals, there are practically no opportunities for audiences to see short films on the big screen.
This is why are so thrilled that our film is getting its first theatrical run at Cinema Nova, an institution which has long championed independent and local cinema. We also applaud the team behind BLAME for backing this initiative. It’s a definite win-win for both audiences and emerging filmmakers.”

The film has been warmly received at film festivals around the world, winning numerous awards including the 2010 IF award for Best Short Film as well as Best Short Film at the Rhode Island Film Festival and the Audience Award at the St. Kilda Film Festival.

CELESTIAL AVENUE runs 19 minutes and will screen before BLAME, which opens exclusively at Cinema Nova on June 16, 2011.
