Redfern Acting student lands role in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit alongside Martin Freeman, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood and Cate Blanchett
Stephen Hunter, student at The Actors Pulse has commenced production in Wellington, New Zealand in Lord of the Rings producer Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit.
Stephen has been a student at The Actors Pulse since 2005 with dreams of landing a major role in Hollywood. Years of inspirational coaching has made its mark in Warner Bros history in one of the biggest motion pictures of all time staring alongside some of the greatest actors of all time.
Long hours and hard work in production is no surprise to Stephen as this is something he has been trained for. “Without a doubt, the last 5 years at The Actors Pulse have been the best and hardest training I have ever had. I have learned so many great skills that are invaluable as a professional actor”. Stephen’s training has taught him that a professional actor’s work is never done. “When I am on set rehearsing, training, in costume and make up, whatever it may be, I am always on the lookout for what else may enhance my performance”.
The Actors Pulse is the only studio in Australia specialising in the most modern versions of the Meisner technique. Teachings are based around those which directors, actors, agents and casting directors all over the world hail as ‘the technique that works’. Founder and director Billy Millionis, who personally studied under the influential Sanford Meisner explains that acting using the Meisner technique teaches you to discover inner truth about yourself. “By delving into your deepest memories and emotions, you will strengthen your communication skills which will allow you to express your true feelings”.
Billy prepares his students for all that Hollywood has to throw at actors and this was a major asset in Stephen landing the role of Bombur in The Hobbit. “When my dream job came along, I was ready, I was match fit after all my training from Billy, along with the amazing Dan Mor, Greg Ritchie & Taz Roc” (guest teachers), said Stephen.
The Hobbit is a two part film adaptation of J.R.R Tolkien’s widely read masterpiece, set 60 years before that of The Lord of the Rings. It follows a story of a little character named Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves (Stephen Hunter) led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.
