Judy Davis joins new Woody Allen film The Bop Decameron

[Tue 21/06/2011 10:17:40]

By Sam Dallas

Australian actress Judy Davis will be reunited with legendary director Woody Allen after almost 14 years, after being cast in his upcoming film The Bop Decameron.

Davis, who received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Allen’s 1992 drama Husbands and Wives, will star alongside Ellen Page, Penelope Cruz, Alec Baldwin and Jesse Eisenberg in the $US24.8 million “broad comedy”. Allen is also set to star in the film – his first acting performance since Scoop in 2006.

The five-time AFI winner received a video tribute from Allen, best known for writing and directing Annie Hall, on the opening night of this year’s BigPond Adelaide Film Festival when she collected the 2011 Don Dunstan Award. This will be their fifth film together, after 1998's Celebrity.

Davis, who has appeared in several local critically-acclaimed films such as My Brilliant Career and Winter Of Our Dreams, will next appear on the big screen in Fred Schepisi’s The Eye Of The Storm, which is set to be released on September 15.

It was announced last week that Sydney-based Davis will return to the stage after a seven-year absence, to appear in a new production of Chekhov's The Seagull at the Belvoir Street Theatre. She is also starring in a Australian/German co-production based on iconic artist Salvador Dali – entitled Dali 3D.

The Bop Decameron is set to start shooting in Rome on July 11.
