Defrim Isai appointed ScreenWest director of production investment

[Wed 29/06/2011 03:00:16]

By Ethan Tuxford

The South Australian Film Corporation's Defrim Isai will replace ScreenWest's director of production investment, Harry Bardwell, later this year.

Isai’s appointment, which ends his five year reign as SAFC general manager of industry development and production, marks the start of a new era at ScreenWest after Bardwell's six-year tenure.

While at the SAFC, Isai secured the development of eight low-budget features, including the official Sundance-selected documentary Shut Up Little Man!

Isai was also directly involved in supporting the first official Chinese/Australian co-production, The Dragon Pearl, and making the SAFC the first agency to cash flow Screen Australia’s Producer Offset rebate.

Prior to his employment with the SAFC, Isai was responsible for the production of several low-budget features, including 2004's Blurred (as associate producer), as well as award-winning short films such as Bloody Footy (officially selected for the Berlin and Tribeca film festivals in 2005).

Isai will commence his new role at ScreenWest in late-July/early-August.
