[Mon 25/07/2011 02:08:38]

Press release from CinefestOz

The CinéfestOZ Film Festival 2011 is pleased to announce that it will host the Western Australian premiere of Toomelah - the new feature film from Australian writer/director, Ivan Sen.

In its fourth year, CinéfestOZ (24-28 August 2011) showcases the best of Australian and French independent film against a stunning South-west backdrop.

Toomelah was first shown in competition in the prestigious Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival this year, generating spellbinding silence at the official press screening followed by a well-deserved standing ovation.

According to CinéfestOZ vice-chairman and film programmer Helen Shervington, Toomelah is one of two powerful Indigenous films and several premieres to be showcased at this year’s festival.

Toomelah will screen in conjunction with Mad Bastards, reflecting a burgeoning national Indigenous screen culture.”

“We are also delighted to announce that the highly regarded Indigenous actor, and cast member of both films, Dean Daley-Jones will attend the screening, along with producer David Jowsey who will conduct a post-screening question and answer session,” she said.

Toomelah will screen on Friday 26 August at Orana Cinemas in Busselton, with a customary celebratory event pre-screening.

Tickets can be booked online here.
