Target Entertainment, Roadshow acquire rights to cloudstreet

[Mon 01/08/2011 03:17:16]

By Sam Dallas

European company Target Entertainment has acquired the international sales rights to critically-acclaimed miniseries cloudstreet.

Target Entertainment will launch the 13-part series, based on Tim Winton’s bestselling novel, to the world market at MIPCOM 2011.

“This faithful television adaptation from Screentime...is rich in onscreen talent, style and dramatic content, making it compulsive viewing for international audiences,” Target Entertainment’s chief executive, Alison Rayson, said in a statement.

“We are very proud at Target to have won the global rights to such a prestigious and high-end drama series from SHOWTIME Australia and look forward hugely to presenting it to our buyers at MIPCOM in October.”

Screening on showcase earlier this year, the WA-series was also acquired by Roadshow Entertainment for Australian DVD distribution, and New Zealand television and DVD rights.

Furthermore, Roadshow Entertainment’s managing director Chris Chard said the series had been part of the Australian literary landscape for 20 years and as such, was an honour to launch the series to the next generation.

The series itself, starring Stephen Curry, is set in and around Perth, during the 1940s and 1950s.

Directed by Matthew Saville, cloudstreet tells the story of two rural families who suffer separate catastrophes and flee to the city to pick up the pieces of their lives and start again.

Brought together in the same house at No.1 Cloud Street, the Lambs and the Pickles' share numerous tragedies and triumphs that draw them closer together, until the roof over their heads becomes a home for their hearts.

To learn more of the series, read the April/May edition of IF magazine.
