Bryan Brown and Rachel Ward's The Seduction selected for No Borders

[Tue 16/08/2011 12:11:01]

By Brendan Swift

Bryan Brown and Rachel Ward's latest feature project, The Seduction, is one of three local films selected for the No Borders International Co-Production Market in New York.

The drama is about a beautiful, hedonistic Parisienne who is forced to confront her choices and values by the unexpected return of the eighteen-year-old son she abandoned as a baby. It is being produced by Brown and directed by Ward – controversial drama Beautiful Kate marked the first feature film collaboration of the husband-wife team in 2009.

The Seduction is written by Sarah Walker and will be executive produced by Andrew Mason.

The No Borders International Co-Production Market, held during Independent Film Week, is the most prominent co-production market in the US and is focused on 45 new projects in development, which have 20 per cent of their financing in place.

The other two Australian features selected for No Borders are     AusMy Mistress and Music of My Life.

My Mistress is a romance about sixteen-year-old Charlie Boyd who, following his father’s suicide, seeks the help of a local S&M mistress in an attempt to re-connect with life. It is written by Gerard Lee, produced by Leanne Tonkes, executive produced by Robyn Kershaw, and will be directed by Stephen Lance.

Music of My Life is a romantic-comedy about an Aussie in London who must face the music when she falls for the man she’s secretly ghostwriting for – true love demands originals, not covers. It is written by Emma Vuletic, produced by Sally Madgwick and executive produced by Timothy White.

Meanwhile, Mechanicals, from producer Nicole O’Donohue and director Leon Ford, has been selected as an alumni project of Cinemart and its relationship with No Borders. It is inspired by their previous short film, The Mechanicals. The duo released their first feature film, Griff the Invisible, earlier this year.

No Borders will take place from September 18-22.

Rachel Ward and Ben Mendelsohn on the set of Beautiful Kate.

Loved and still haunted by Beautifu Kate. If Seduction has the same affect like B.K. did ,(my heart still is recovering)then Rachel Ward will be noted as one of those Directors that film critics and buffs choose to discuss. How refreshing to see a Womans viewpoint, such unique takes on the subjects tackled so far. Looking forward to many more years of great film and hours of discussions from a great find. Will be adding your body of work to my collection. Thanks you're an inspiration to all of us wannabees who still hack out a page or two a day before bashing your head into the wall andstarting all over again, HA! Let the journey continue... .

Seduction like "Beuatiful Kate" is once again graced with Director Rachel Ward. Although a woman director in a sea of men one needs not look at the gender but of the talent, and what a talent. Still haunted by B.K. (my heart is still recovering). Am looking forward to this experience and lesson in perfection. R. W. is on a journey and is kind enough to take us along for the ride. What an inspiration to us who bang out a few pages a day only to bash your head against the wall and then start all over again, and again. Thankyou for reserecting the industry. Awaiting the next lesson, let the journey continue... .
