Beyond Productions withdraws appeal over Taboo series Producer Offset rejection

Beyond Productions has withdrawn its appeal against Screen Australia's decision to reject its Producer Offset application for controversial series Taboo.
It brings an end to the long-running dispute, which began in October 2009, when Screen Australia rejected the TV company’s 20 per cent Producer Offset application for the fifth series of Taboo because it did not meet the significant Australian content (SAC) test and was not a new creative concept.
The Administrative Appeals Tribunal upheld the decision, which was then appealed by Beyond, supported by the Screen Producers Association of Australia. The initial rejection cost Beyond an expected rebate of $873,000 (not including legal costs).
However, Screen Australia said an agreement had now been reached between the two parties.
"The terms of the agreement between Beyond Productions and Screen Australia are confidential," the Screen Australia statement said.
A separate case, regarding Screen Australia’s decision to reject Essential Media and Entertainment’s Producer Offset application for TV series Lush House, is still underway. Essential received a favourable AAT ruling however, Screen Australia has appealed (and is also funding part of Essential's costs).
