Joe Berlinger will launch 2012 AFTRS documentary course

[Tue 11/10/2011 02:35:47]

Press release from AFTRS

AFTRS – Australia’s national screen arts and broadcast school is delighted to announce that acclaimed international documentary maker Joe Berlinger will launch the exciting new Graduate Diploma in Documentary on offer at AFTRS in 2012. This new, dedicated documentary course will kick off with an intensive two week masterclass led by the multi-award winning Joe Berlinger; director of the extraordinary 'Brother’s Keeper', 'Crude' and the smash hit 'Metallica: Some Kind of Monster'. Joe Berlinger is currently in the process of completing the third film in his 'Paradise Lost Trilogy: Purgatory' – already tipped as favourite for Best Documentary at the 2012 Academy Awards.

Variety magazine describes Belinger’s latest film as “being destined to rank as one of the major achievements in American documentary...”

Made possible through the generous support of Kim Williams AM, in memory of his parents through the David & Joan Williams Documentary Fellowship, this is a genuine coup and testament to the unrivalled quality of the learning & teaching experiences and opportunities offered by Australia’s leading screen arts and broadcast institution.

Kim Williams:
“I am a believer in the power and importance of documentary above all film forms in providing an unusually intense personal expression unique in all film making. It is an honour that Joe Berlinger can get the new AFTRS Graduate Diploma in Documentary on its way. I hope that future graduates may be beneficiaries of the fellowship itself.”

Sandra Levy:
“AFTRS has a commitment to documentary film making and this year is offering a brand new Graduate Diploma specialising in Documentary, as well as a part time Graduate Certificate in Documentary Fundamentals. These are both new to the school in the last two years, and show how seriously we regard the documentary form. We are grateful to Kim Williams for making this opportunity for Joe Berlinger to teach at the school possible.”

Mr Berlinger will work directly with the 2012 AFTRS Graduate Diploma in Documentary students in February 2012. Applications for the course are now open and close 1st November 2011. http://www.aftrs.edu.au/courses/2012-award-courses.aspx
