Quickflix signs content deals with major studios

Online rental service Quickflix has signed a number of content deals with Hollywood studios, ahead of the launch of its digital streaming subscription service.
The company has secured deals with studios including Warner Bros. International Branded Services, Sony Pictures Television, Lakeshore Entertainment, Content Media Corporation and Pinnacle Films.
"We're delighted to have finalised these ground breaking deals with some of the world's most esteemed movie studios and distributors of feature films," said Quickflix chief executive, Chris Taylor, in a statement. "Subscribers will have access to great content from day one of the service."
The studio agreements follow the company's recent announcement that it will stream movies to Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) consoles later this year. It is believed that more than 1.3 million consumers with internet-connectable consoles will have access to the on-demand service.
Quickflix's subscriber base experienced solid growth during the September quarter, adding 10,383 new customers - an increase of 15 per cent. As of October 24, Quickflix boasted more than 91,500 subscribers, up 73 per cent year-on-year.
Its position in the market has been further consolidated by the closure of the BigPond Movies DVD service at the end of last month, which saw Telstra sell the contents of the BigPond Movies library to Quickflix.
Further deals with content providers will be announced in the coming weeks.
