Aurora Short Film Festival

Aurora invites all creatives to submit their own digital content for a chance to receive industry acknowledgment, television exposure and sponsorship opportunities to help kick-start their film and TV careers

ENTRY DEADLINE:  30/04/2012

WHERE:  N/A

STATE:  National

COUNTRY:  AUS

Aurora, Australia’s leading not-for-profit subscription community channel, will launch its first Short Film Festival on 1st December 2011. Under the banner of ‘Make Something 2012’, Aurora invites all creatives to submit their own digital content for a chance to receive industry acknowledgement, television exposure and sponsorship opportunities to help kick-start their film and TV careers.

Aurora CEO Phyllisse Stanton said, “As an independent broadcaster, we are passionate about uncovering fresh Australian talent and the festival is all about showcasing tomorrow’s film and TV sensations.”

The world is your oyster for ‘Make Something 2012’, whether it be a short film, music clip, doco, or digital art. The festival puts no stamp on the creative limits of entrants and is bound by no signature theme, topic or skill level. “In the spirit of having a go, the film awards encourages anyone interested in film and TV to take part in the entry process, so put your creative caps on and Make Something,” says Stanton.

The film festival will break new ground by combining strategically placed online screenings with digital broadcast. “Our goal is to create a platform for new and experienced filmmakers to not only show their work but interact with audiences during the selection process,” she said.

But the judges are only the beginning says Stanton, “the real test for the material will come from the voting public whose opinion holds the key to winning the cash prizes”.

“The audience will drive the contest online, alongside the judges who will be representing all facets of the industry. Short films are often the practice ground for feature films and can stand as a unique art form that can deliver a powerful message in a very short space of time. We are throwing down the gauntlet to all creatives to ‘Make Something in 2012’,” she said.

Aurora will announce the top ten finalists on 4th May 2012. Broadcasting of the finalist films during the online voting period will air on Aurora on Sundays at 6pm from 5th May 2012 through to 31st May 2012. The winner will be announced on 3rd June 2012.
