The Astronaut is a new Australian independent film that is currently in Post-Production. The Gil & Stine International production is a character-driven, science-fiction tale set in the year 2037.
During his final days on planet Earth, the Astronaut (Curtis Fernandez) returns to his childhood hometown and meets a local girl going nowhere; the two form an unlikely connection that will set them on a new trajectory through this unknown universe.
The creators, Meredith Calthorpe and Adam Lemmey, met while studying at AFTRS in 2009. Calthorpe is a Sydney-based freelance camera assistant and cinematographer, while Lemmey has made several shorts, such as the award-winning Hard Rubbish.
Sound mixing on the new film will be provided by AFTRS graduate Pru Montin. Gil & Stine International is looking to give a special screening of the film in early-2012, before pursuing distribution.
