Deluxe acquires Hong Kong-based VFX house Centro Digital Pictures

[Fri 10/02/2012 10:00:29]

By Brendan Swift

Deluxe Entertainment Services Group has acquired Hong Kong-based post-production and VFX house, Centro Digital Pictures.

The company, which was recognised for its visual effects work on Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill with a BAFTA nomination, will be integrated into Deluxe Australia's operations.

Deluxe Australia managing director Alaric McAusland said it had enjoyed a close working relationship with Centro (and Centro's former owner Disney) and had been eyeing up an entry into the high-growth region for some time.

"More and more studio customers are looking to partner into that area and are looking for a safe and trusted pair of hands to execute their creative endavours," he said.

The acquisition will also provide a gateway for Deluxe's international customers looking to partner with Hong Kong and Chinese filmmakers while also providing access for regional content producers looking to finish and deliver high-quality content into North American and European markets.

Centro's feature film credits include Storm Riders, Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer, Mr Popper's Penguins, The Curse of the Golden Flower, and The Muppets.

Despite the difficult economic environment, Deluxe has continued to actively grow its business. In 2010, it bought local design and visual effects company Postmodern Sydney and in September last year launched the international Method Studios banner.

Centro general manager John Chu will continue to run the business and report to Deluxe Australia managing director Alaric McAusland.
