Australian comedy Not Suitable For Children has grossed just over $146,000 on its opening weekend at the local box office.

The film, starring Ryan Kwanten as a young playboy and his attempts to have children after learning he is about to become infertile, was shown on 42 screens giving it a mediocre screen average of $3497. Including preview screenings, the Icon-distributed film has grossed just under $200,000.

Rolf de Heer's The King is Dead! was also released on just four screens, grossing $11,927. The film, which stars starring Bojana Novakovic and Dan Wyllie, is being distributed by Pinnacle Films.

Meanwhile, local documentary I Am Eleven continues to attract audiences. The festival favourite, about 11-year olds' views on life, grossed $24,204 over the weekend on two screens. It has now grossed almost $57,000 in total.

Among mainstream releases, Ted maintained top spot at the box office after grossing $6.7 million. It dropped just 24 per cent in its second weekend after Universal added 46 screens to bring its total screen count to 411. The film features the work of local VFX house Iloura, which created the teddy bear design and about half of the bear's visual effects.

Ted was followed by Ice Age 4: Continental Drift ($3.9 million across 465 screens), The Amazing Spider-Man ($3.6 million across 571 screens), Brave ($1.9 million across 352 screens) and Snow White and the Huntsman ($1.4 million across 277 screens).
