Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) has announced a very special addition to the 2012 SPAA Fringe line up of keynote speakers, US director, producer and screenwriter Larry Cohen.
The flamboyant filmaker is best known for his inventive low-budget horror films, the provocative social commentary of his works such as IT’S ALIVE and GOD TOLD ME TO, and his prolific work in television conceiving THE INVADERS and developing THE DEFENDERS and ARREST AND TRIAL.
A major player in the Blaxploitation film movement of the 1970s, Cohen is also a well-known screenwriter, penning a number of major Hollywood films including PHONE BOOTH and CELLULAR.
‘SPAA Fringe is very pleased to have Larry Cohen as our major keynote speaker. With global access to content, story telling is a big responsibility for filmmakers to take on. Long term survival for content producers today requires not only a flexible business plan but also an honest recognition of how best to tell stories for humanity. Larry Cohen joins Kylie Du Fresne, producer of THE SAPPHIRES, in the keynote line up for Fringe.
SPAA Fringe is a two-day event comprised of workshops, roundtables, one-on-one sessions, panel discussions, film screenings and social networking events. The 2012 Fringe will take place from October 26-27th during the inaugural Cockatoo Island Film Festival (CIFF).
