Phil Craig appointed ABC TV head of factual

UK executive producer Phil Craig has been appointed ABC TV’s new head of factual.
Craig, who will assume the Sydney-based role from October 29, is currently working for British independent producer, Nutopia, and has also worked extensively with the BBC, Granada Television and UK production companies such as Diverse and Brook Lapping.
He has also worked with ABC TV to co-produce a number of documentaries including Surviving Mumbai, Skippy: Australia’s First Superstar, The Great Escape: The Reckoning, Churchill’s Darkest Decision, Chateau Chunder: The Australian Wine Revolution and Desert War. His other Australian credits include The Secret History of Eurovision for SBS and Bom Bali for Network Ten.

"Over the last eight years I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working for the ABC alongside some fantastic Australian filmmakers and been hugely impressed with the talent and energy right across the industry here. I’m committed to the values and ambition of the ABC, one of the world’s truly great broadcasters. I’m looking forward to helping to maintain the high quality of its factual output, and developing it into new areas."
ABC TV director Kim Dalton said in a statement: “We are thrilled to have someone of Phil’s background and expertise joining us. His achievements in Australia and internationally are quite exceptional and I have no doubt he will make an important contribution to the quality and diversity of the ABC’s factual output.”
Having worked with previous Heads of Factual to the mutual satisfaction of all, we hope that Mr Phil Craig enjoys his appointment in Australia, and will continue to utilise the great music composing talent available within Australia, including and especially Tony Naylor and Russ McKenna, known as Rusty Nayles, based in Melbourne and successful composers for many ABC Factual Productions including After The Fires, Secret Recipes, Law Matters, The Occasional Cook, James Can Cook and A Melbourne Story.
