Panasonic Releases World's Smallest and Lightest Full-range F2.8 Telephoto Zoom

[Fri 21/09/2012 10:47:55]

Press Release from Panasonic Australia

SYDNEY, September 18, 2012

Panasonic is proud to announce a new telephoto zoom interchangeable lens for the LUMIX G Micro System - the LUMIX G X VARIO 35-100mm / F2.8 / POWER O.I.S. (H-HS35100) (35mm camera equivalent: 70-200mm) – which complies with the Micro Four Thirds standard.

Crystallising Panasonic's optical technologies, the premium "X" lens features superb image rendering for lifelike textures, crisp edge-to-edge contrast, and a unique Nano Surface Coating for minimal ghosts and flare.

Featuring F2.8 brightness across the entire zoom range, the versatile LUMIX G X VARIO 35-100mm / F2.8 / POWER O.I.S. lens is suitable for capturing a wide range of scenes, from moving subjects such as sports, birds and animals to portraits and close-up shots – taking advantage of features such as stunning defocus and fast shutter speed. The constant aperture can also be used for video recording.

The LUMIX G X VARIO 35-100mm / F2.8 / POWER O.I.S. lens will be available in Australia in December 2012. Pricing will be available closer to the release date.

Key features

Comprised of 18 lenses in 13 groups, the lens system realises uniform descriptiveness with its excellent contrast from the centre to the corners, constant brightness across the entire zoom range, and high resolution.

A UED (Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion) lens and 2 ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses minimise chromatic aberration and distortion. The LUMIX G X VARIO 35-100mm / F2.8 / POWER O.I.S. is extremely mobile - at around 99.9mm in length and weighing 360g.

Panasonic's Nano Surface Coating technology minimises reflection across the entire visual light range (380nm-780nm) by applying an extra-low refractive index coating with nano-sized structure on the surface of the lens. It results in a clear picture with dramatic reduction of ghosts and flare.

POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabiliser) effectively compensates for not only small, fast movements but also large, slow ones, making it easy to shoot clear shots even in low-lit situations such as night time or indoors.

The superior inner focus system provides excellent resolution and contrast without changing its overall length from full life-size magnification to infinity. The inclusion of a stepping motor makes the focusing action smooth and silent for use in both photo and video recording. Seven blades give the aperture a rounded shape that produces an attractively smooth defocus effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at larger aperture settings.

When the lens is mounted on LUMIX G Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM) cameras, users can take advantage of the high-speed, high-precision Contrast AF system.

The LUMIX G X VARIO 35-100mm / F2.8 / POWER O.I.S is designed to protect against splash/dust with a rubber ring on the durable metal lens mount. The lens has a sophisticated metallic finish to match the LUMIX G Micro System camera range.
