The Walkley Foundation has announced the three screen productions which will vie for the 2012 Walkley Documentary Award.
The shortlist, announced last night at the Antenna International Documentary Film Festival finale in Sydney, is comprised of:
Quentin McDermott, Morag Ramsay and Kevin May Four Corners, ABC TV Closing Ranks
Celeste Geer Rebel Films/ABC TV Then the Wind Changed
Jacob Hickey Northern Pictures/Fredbird Entertainment/SBS TV Once Upon a time in Cabramatta
Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance federal secretary Chris Warren said the three films were excellent examples of the power and versatility of this longer form of journalism.
“Documentary filmmaking is a challenging form of journalism, but these finalists demonstrate the outstanding results which can be achieved through hard work, persistence and courage,” Warren said in a statement.
The finalists will be screened at The Walkley Foundation’s What’s the Story media conference on November 30 at the National Film & Sound Archive in Canberra.
