The City of Darebin is proud to announce the inaugural Reservoir Arts
Festival - TRUE NORTH - which will run from 1 to 3 March 2013
throughout Broadway and Edwardes Street, Reservoir.
True North has been lovingly and carefully designed to enable residents
and visitors to celebrate the unique cultural identity of Reservoir and be
proud of this distinctive part of Melbourne.
The aim of the event is to bring people out of their houses and into the
streets to celebrate what makes Reservoir so special.
And you never know, True North might just prove that astounding things can
happen in the suburbs.
True North 2013 Key Events:
* Lost in Translation - Taking the idea of Chinese Whispers, where an
original story gets changed and reinterpreted as it's passed along, we
will work with a number of artists from various disciplines that will each
reinterpret a short story about Reservoir using their own art form. This
will then culminate with an exhibition around Edwardes Street and Broadway
and tour during the festival.
* The Lounge Room Project - Encouraging the commuity to emerge from their
houses this project will create a number of temporary lounge rooms around
Edwardes Street and Broadway. Each unique "room" will encourage the
community to view Reservoir in a different way.
* Darebin Community and Kite Festival - Catering for crowds of up to
40,000 people of all ages, tastes and cultural backgrounds, the Darebin
Community and Kite Festival is a fun, family friendly event for the whole
community. In 2013 the festival will be a little bit different from
previous years, taking place on Saturday, with a new focus on
international students and a brand new fireworks display. The 2013 Darebin
Community and Kite Festival will be held at Edwardes Lake Park on Saturday
2 March. The Darebin Community and Kite Festival has been an annual event
in Darebin for over 10 years.
* Laneway Cinema - Focusing on the classics of cinema from the past 70
years the laneway cinemas will breathe new life into Reservoir after dark
and again encourage audience to leave the house and enjoy their suburb.
* Everything Except Walk - Broadway and Edwardes Street in Reservoir will
come alive with colour and be redesigned in an exciting public art project
for the festival which will remind people of the beauty in the suburbs.
* Food For Thought - A number of artists will take up the challenge and
create edible art sculpture at various locations throughout Broadway and
Edwardes Street in Reservoir.
There will be a wide variety of music, street theatre and projection art
vibing up the area plus a pop-up bar and comedy club and heaps more.
Be part of Reservoir's cultural awakening. You will be amazed what you
will discover if you head True North.
