New doco series filming chef Mark Olive in Australia

[Mon 06/02/2012 01:30:53]

By Fay Al-Janabi

Indigenous Australian chef Mark Olive, aka ‘The Black Olive’, will appear in an episode of the German 360° – Geo Reportage documentary series.

The series, which screens on Europe’s leading cultural TV channel, ARTE, is currently being filmed in Australia. It explores the lives of everyday heroes around the world.

On the show, Olive will introduce European viewers to the native Australian meats, herbs and spices that make his cuisine unique, showing viewers where these ingredients are found in Australia. Filming is due to take place in a range of locations across Victoria, South Australia and the Northern Territory.

With 25 years of experience, Olive’s passion for Australian ingredients was showcased in his Outback Café cookbook. His take on Australian cuisine has earned Olive an international reputation, with two seasons of his cooking show, Mark Olive’s Outback Café, airing internationally in over a dozen countries.

He now runs Black Olive Catering in Melbourne, where he is also the Victorian distributor for the Outback Pride range of herbs and spices, the ingredients from which are entirely sourced from Indigenous community farms.

Olive has also been chosen to become part of Tourism Australia’s ‘Friends of Australia’ program, joining the likes of Bryce Courtenay, Dick Smith, and Baz Luhrmann. The program utilises the power and influence of high profile Australians across a variety of industries to act as passionate and authentic advocates of Australia.
