Opportunity for aspiring Production Designers

The Sydney Film School Advanced Diploma of Screen & Media Course has opened two places for Production Designers. Applicants must be quick as the course starts on February 18 and applications for Production Design close on February 8.
The Advanced Diploma of Screen & Media is a one-year specialised course. Students will be taught by the renowned Production Designer Elizabeth Mary Moore (Accidents Happen, Not Suitable for Children) and will get the opportunity to work on the sets of feature films and/or TV productions.
Livia Rubiolini graduated from Production Design last year. She undertook her two-months work experience with the Art Department attachment on ABC's 'Devil's Dust' and Channel Nine 'Underbelly'.
"Working around professionals and getting tips and tricks of the trade was a major educational experience. I was on set from the first day, got to see how everyone worked and learnt in detail what each person’s individual role within the art department entails. I also learnt how to work with a team of bigger scale.”
Livia was only meant to be working on Underbelly for a week but was asked to stay till the end of the season. She says,“My role consisted of set dressing and striking and I helped the dressers with ‘Bob Carr's’ office. The sets were meant to be true to life and were highly researched so getting the personal touches right was really important. Things that you learn on sets like work flow, the importance of efficiency and being able to listen to what you have to do are really valuable. Some of this aspect of learning might sound like the things of common sense but only in the real life working environment you can actually test yourself and see how you perform.”
During her studies Livia worked on a number of short student films as a production designer.She was awarded the 'Best Production Designer' award at the 17th SFS Festival for ‘Magnum Opus’ and was offered a free full time membership with the APDG (Australian Production Design Guild).
