Son of a Gun, starring Ewan McGregor, places urgent casting call for extras

[Wed 13/02/2013 08:39:30]

By Brendan Swift

High-profile Western Australian feature Son of a Gun has placed an urgent casting call for extras including roles for prisoners/gangs, hired muscle/henchmen, a tactical response group, and Chinese people.

Son of a Gun marks Australian filmmaker Julius Avery's debut feature and centres on the relationship between a master criminal (Ewan McGregor) and his young protégé (Brenton Thwaites). The thriller also stars Swedish actress Alicia Vikander and is set to begin shooting in Perth shortly.

The casting call, via talent website StarNow, says the prisoner/gangs should be mainly comprised of Aboriginal, Islander, Maori and Middle Eastern males aged 18-40 although the production is also looking for "tough looking guys of other nationalities" meeting the description of "well built, scars, tattoos, bikies, street look".

The hired muscle/henchmen should be male Australian, Italian and European gang member/organised crime types aged 20-45. Applicants for the tactical response group should be aged 18-50 and require gun handling experience, as well as being fit and with a strong presence. Finally, the casting call for Chinese people stipulates no acting experience is necessary, and applicants can be any gender, aged 18-99.

Applications to play extras will be accepted for at least another month from February 10 (although a casting registration for prisoner/gangs was held on February 12). Payment is in line with Equity minimums.
