Red takes legal action against Sony over F65, F55 and F5

Red Digital Cinema has taken legal action against Sony, alleging the company’s F65, F55 and F5 cameras infringe Red patents.
The complaint alleges “that Sony’s unauthorized, infringing cameras has resulted in lost sales, reduced the business and profit of Red, and greatly injured the general reputation of Red,” according to Deadline.com (which has also posted the original filing here).
Red is seeking a preliminary and permanent injunction which would stop Sony from selling the F65, F55 and F5 cameras.
Red’s high-end EPIC cameras have been used on several major Hollywood blockbusters such as The Hobbit films and the Sydney-shot The Great Gatsby.
Sony’s F65 is a relatively new competitor: its first major film production was M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming film After Earth.
In Australia, the F65 has been used to shoot the Seven's major TV series A Place To Call Homes and a number of TV commercials. The recently unveiled F55 and F5 are set to be sold in Australia in coming weeks.
