AiF HEATH LEDGER scholarship now open, Kim Ledger announced as patron and prize package increased

Los Angeles-based Australians in Film (AiF), today announced that applications are now open for the fifth annual AiF HEATH LEDGER SCHOLARSHIP (HLS). The Scholarship is open to any emerging Australian actor to further their career and training in the US and provides over $20,000 in prizes for the winner.
For the 2013 Scholarship, Kim Ledger, Heath's father, has agreed to assume the role of Patron of the Scholarship to provide strategic oversight. In addition, $5000 worth of visa and immigration services has been added to the winners prize package.
The recipient of the primary scholarship will receive USD$10,000 in cash, a round-trip ticket to Los Angeles flying Australians in Film’s exclusive airline partner Virgin Australia, a one-year Scholarship to Stella Adler Acting School in LA, a trip around California for two from Visit California, a Showcast & Breakdown Services VIP casting package, and $5000 worth of visa and immigration services from Raynor and Associates. Two runners up will receive a round-trip ticket to Los Angeles courtesy of Virgin Australia plus a Showcast VIP casting package.
Applications are open now and will be available until April 7th, 2013 at www.australiansinfilm.org. The winning recipient will be announced at the AiF’s annual Australians In Film Awards & Benefit Dinner in Los Angeles on June 12, 2013.
Previous recipients of the Scholarship include Anna McGahan, who received a Logie nomination last year for her role in Underbelly: Razor. She currently can be seen in House Husbands on Channel 9. Ryan Corr (Packed to the Rafters); Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp) and Oliver Ackland (The Slap).
Anna McGahan stated, “I feel so honoured to be the recipient of the 2012 Heath Ledger Scholarship. I know the legacy of Heath - his life and his career - has inspired many young actors before me, but I value this opportunity so immensely. The HLS has given my career a scope and trajectory that I only dreamed was possible. I can now venture into Los Angeles with the support of Australians in Film and the Australian industry - and that sort of camaraderie is exactly what Heath was renowned for. I am excited to take on this challenge, so grateful for the support in my craft, and thrilled about the adventure I am undertaking.”
The Heath Ledger Scholarship is named in honor of Ledger who was an Ambassador for AiF before his untimely death in January 2008 and has the support of the Ledger family and friends.

Past judges have included actors Jude Law, Rachel Griffiths, Jason Issacs and Frances O’Connor, film directors Gregor Jordan (Ned Kelly, Two Hands) and Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight, Lords of Dogtown), Warner Bros Pictures President of production Greg Silverman, casting director Donna Issacson, ROAR manager Will Ward, talent agent Steve Alexander, and casting agents Ann Faye, John Papsidera, and April Webster.
