Flickerfest survives Oswald in Byron and continues on national tour

Press release

After a fabulous weekend in Bangalow Northern NSW , where intrepid crowds still flocked to the A and I hall for our highly successful 3 days of screenings, not deterred by the flooding and wild and windy weather display of Cyclone Oswald, Flickerfest now continues its Australia wide road trip, returning to Albany and Avoca and visiting the Gold Coast Arts Centre for the 1st time this weekend.

In 2013 we celebrate 22 years of screening the best short films from Australia and around the World and we are thrilled to be able to bring these films to audiences hungry for great short films in an expanded tour to even more venues this year.

The Flickerfest National tour screens the most entertaining, innovative, inspiring and award winning range of shorts, handpicked as highlights from a record 2300 entries received and 100 films officially selected for our Sydney competition. Many of these films are world or Australian premieres, giving local Flickerfest audiences the first look at the hottest short films in the world today. Flickerfest remains Australia’s only Academy® Accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival ensuring that we continue to present an A-list class short film competition recognised amongst the best in the world.

Screening at all venues (Gold Coast, Albany, Avoca) is our Best of Australian shorts collection which showcases an incredible selection of homegrown talent from around the country. Highlights include Yardbird winner of Best Australian Film at Flickerfest 2013, a masterful film directed by Michael Spiccia. Lois – starring Academy®Award nominated acting legend Jacki Weaver and the quirky and highly crafted animation A Cautionary Tale starring the voices of David Wenham, Cate Blanchett and Barry Otto and the hilarious Daves Dead, directed by up coming talent Alethea Jones.

At our Avoca mini festival Flickerfest will also screen 2 extra programmes of shorts including our hilarious Short Laughs programme featuring the funniest films from Australia and overseas, including Spanish comedy Life Vest Under Your Seat and the funny and topical social media film Friend Request Pending, starring the queen of stage and screen, Judi Dench. Also screening is our International 1 Programme featuring the quirky and magical Route 43, Miracle from Sweden and charming French/Canadian film Chef De Meute, officially selected at Cannes Film Festival.
