Silver Linings Playbook, Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty lead AACTA noms

Silver Linings Playbook, Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty have received the most number of Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) International Award nominations.

Silver Linings Playbook, which stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, received nominations across all five AACTA categories including Best Film. It was followed by historial drama Lincoln and thriller Zero Dark Thirty, which each received four nominations. Ben Affleck's Argo received three nominations while musical Les Misérables and the epic Life of Pi each received two nominations.

A number of Australians were recognised for their work abroad including actors Hugh Jackman (Les Misérables), Naomi Watts (The Impossible), Nicole Kidman (The Paperboy), as well as Australian writer-director Ben Lewin (Best Direction for The Sessions).

AACTA president Geoffrey Rush said: “As the Australian Academy engages in the international Awards conversation, it’s brilliant to see Australian performers and practitioners nominated alongside international talent for the 2nd AACTA International Awards. Indeed, the talents of Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts and Ben Lewin stand on their own and will no doubt be honoured by our international screen peers."

Other international nominees included French actresses Marion Cotillard and Emmanuelle Riva, Taiwanese director Ang Lee, British actor Daniel Day-Lewis, US actor Joaquin Phoenix, and directors Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino.

The AACTA was established by the Australian Film Institute in 2011 and continues the AFI Awards, which were established in 1958. This year’s AACTA Awards Luncheon will be held on January 28 followed by the AACTA Awards Ceremony on January 30.
