ABC TV promotes Tomlinson

Amber Tomlinson is being promoted to channel manager of ABC1 as part of the reorganisation of the broadcaster’s executive team.

Currently deputy controller of ABC2, Tomlinson will report to Brendan Dahill who becomes head of programming for ABC1 and ABC2 from January 1. The ABC is yet to appoint a channel manager for ABC2.

Director of Television Richard Finlayson announced on Monday he is abolishing the controller model which was instituted by his predecessor Kim Dalton, replicating the BBC system of controllers.

Currently Dahill is ABC1 controller. His deputy controller, Natalie Edgar, recently departed to take up the post of director of television for BBC Worldwide Australia and New Zealand.

Finlayson said the changes are internal and would not affect how producers pitch their ideas and content to ABC TV.  As announced, ABC2 controller Stuart Menzies takes the new role of head of TV content and creative development. Arul Baskaran continues as head of online and multiplatform and Deirdre Brennan started this week as head of children’s TV.
